What exactly is the PTA?

Short version: we’re parents and staff who advocate for school funding, raise money to support our school, and organize the things that make Highland Terrace feel like a community - Science Night, the Pancake Breakfast, our legendary auction, classroom support, among a myriad of other things.
Do I have to volunteer? No. Membership and volunteering are separate. Plenty of members aren’t attending meetings and just volunteer if they can.
Where does the money raised go? The money we raise at events stays at HT, funding programs for our students and support for our teachers.
Is that the same as my membership dues? Not quite. Dues connect us to the Washington State PTA and National PTA, which is where the advocacy muscle comes from. Both matter, and we’ll break down the full budget at the first meeting in September.
Is it a clique? We sure hope not. Everyone belongs here. We’re a rotating group of people who said yes to helping the school, and we would genuinely like more of you.

 

Become a member

Membership gets you the all-school Family Directory, and it kick-starts our funding for the year. No volunteering or meetings required. Memberships run one school year at a time, so returning families, please rejoin for the 2026-2027 school year.  Click here to join today!

We built you a new website

One of our goals this year was making it easier to find PTA information without having to ask someone. So we rebuilt htpta.org from scratch. Whether you're a brand new kindergarten family or you've been here since your oldest started, you should be able to land on the site and find what you need.

Take a look, bookmark it, and tell us what's missing. We'd rather hear it than have you wonder.

We need volunteers

There are a lot of ways to pitch in, from one afternoon to a year-long role. Right now we're especially looking for:

·       Auction Co-Chairs and Committee Members

·       Pancake Breakfast Co-Chair

·       Reading Challenge Co-Chair

·       Room Parents

·       K/1 Lunch and Recess Volunteers

The K/1 lunch and recess shifts are a great place to start if you've never volunteered before. You sign up for the days that work, and you get to see your kid's world for an hour.

Grade-level WhatsApp groups

These groups are parent-led and completely optional. They're for building community: questions about schedules and spirit days, reminders about book fair or science night, grade-level meet-ups, volunteer opportunities. Please keep student information private, ask before posting photos, skip the business ads, and handle any conflicts directly with the family or the school. Opt in using the QR below.
